Student Stories

Graduated in 2011 with a Bachelor of Sport Coaching from the University of Canterbury
I had a gap year out in Christchurch, New Zealand and fell in love with the country, the people and the Kiwi way of life, so looked into options to go to University out there. A friend of mine suggested that I contact Study Options to enquire about studying abroad, which I did and I never looked back! Study Options were absolutely outstanding, they helped me to find the right course and had an answer for literally every question that I had for them!
I had three very happy years studying Sport Coaching at the University of Canterbury and graduated in 2011 with the equivalent of a 2:1. The world was my oyster and it was now down to me to decide what to pursue. I was offered a semi professional rugby contract back in England which I accepted and after two years playing rugby I realised that I wasn’t going to make it to the top of the game so looked into teaching.
I spent a year at an independent school near Cambridge as a Sports Graduate Assistant and they then assisted in putting me through my teacher training at the University of Buckingham. I ended up with a PGCE and passed my NQT year in 2014. I then made the move down to the prestigious Sevenoaks School in Kent where I am currently teaching at at the moment. I am a PE teacher and am Head of Football as well as a resident boarding tutor in one of the boarding houses. I absolutely love my job and love the school I am working at. I have been here for 3 years now and still look forward to going into work every day.
None of this would have been possible without the help of those at Study Options. I would recommend studying overseas to anyone as it not only is a great experience, but also shows initiative, independence and sets you apart from the crowd. In all my job interviews I’ve been to so far I always mention that I chose to study in New Zealand and the reasons why and those interviewing me always find it fascinating and interesting.
